“Adab in Islamic Medical Ethics”

Elizabeth Sartell is a PhD student in Islamic Studies at the University of Chicago Divinity School.  Her interests center on Islamic Sufism and the history of the sciences.  Specifically, her research looks at the relationship between mysticism and science in the medieval period—the ways in which Muslim Sufis engage with, rely upon, interpret, or re-code scientific discourses in their texts.  She is also interested in questions regarding contemporary Islam and medical ethics.  Elizabeth received her MA in Islamic Studies from the University of Chicago and her BS in Mathematics and Religious Studies from the University of Illinois.
