Research Specialist II
The Initiative on Islam & Medicine at the University of Chicago is hiring a full-time research/program assistant to work on a variety of ongoing research projects focused on American Muslims and to coordinate conference and seminar activities related to Islamic bioethics. The assistant will work under the direct supervision of Dr. Aasim I. Padela, MD, MSc and as part of a team that includes a part-time post-graduate research assistant and interns.
Job Summary: The Research Specialist will assist in implementation of a religiously-tailored group education and sermon-based intervention to enhance Muslim women's mammography practices during the summer. During the fall qualitative and quantitative data from this intervention will be analyzed for manuscript preparation and grant submissions in the winter. The candidate will be a lead in writing and analyses. Aside from these activities the specialist will help develop and deploy Islamic bioethics workshops in the fall/winter, be responsible for updating our website/social media presence, maintain bibliographic database, and assist in Islamic bioethics research.
Education Requirements: Master's degree in a field relevant to the research being conducted required and a minimum of one year relevant research experience preferred. Candidate must demonstrate qualitative and quantitative research (epi/biostats) skills-sets through coursework and research experiences. Furthermore prior studies of Islamic law (coursework or seminary experiences) is required.
Experience Requirements: Prior experience in community-based health research and manuscript preparation required. Previous experience with Muslim community engagement and advocacy preferred. Prior experience with conference hosting and marketing preferred.
